Blume is a reimagined manual coffee brewer inspired by the ritual and joy of making coffee. Born from a desire to create a simpler, more intuitive alternative to the Aeropress, Blume blends functionality with emotional appeal. Designed for everyday users who value both quality and experience, the brewer encourages a slower, more mindful interaction, celebrating the tactile process of brewing as much as the result.
Blume was born from a critique of the AeroPress, which isn’t well-suited to the inverted method, despite it being widely regarded as the best way to brew a richer, deeper cup. I set out to design a brewer that embraces this method intuitively, while also creating a more playful and emotionally engaging ritual.
Blume pairs a soft, approachable form with heat-resistant, recyclable materials. Its muted, modern colour palette and matte finish evoke calm and ritual, making it both functional and display-worthy.
Blume was developed through a user-centred process, refining ergonomics, flow, and clarity of use. It supports both classic and inverted brewing: the funnel stabilises cups upright, while guide rails assist plunging from below. Its biomorphic form, inspired by analog tools, uses semantic dissonance, resembling a lamp rather than a brewer—to spark curiosity and invite ritual.
