2024
The Holburne Museum commissioned me to design and batch-produce a souvenir for their Up Late exhibition pop-up shop in June 2024.
I collaborated closely with both the museum director and retail manager to curate a small run of distinctive, well-crafted pieces that captured the essence of the Holburne — its character, charm, and cultural identity.

Inspired by the Holburne Museum’s striking contrast between its Renaissance front and modern rear extension, this sand timer reflects the building’s duality. Its profile draws from the vertical fins of the contemporary façade, with the emerald half echoing modernism and the muted beige side referencing the classical past. A liminal space between the two symbolizes the passage of time, tying both eras together.

Liminal Flow: A fusion of past and present, inspired by the harmonious coexistence of the historical grandeur and modern innovation OF THE HOLBURNE. Drawing on the captivating duality of the Holburne’s transformation, embodying the essence of liminality – the threshold between what was and what is.
It’s acrylic outer shell and cast concrete body anchors the sand timer, symbolizing the paradox of time where grains of sand flow purposefully yet without choice, navigating the in-between spaces of two interconnected chambers. Influenced by postmodern design, it invites contemplation of the fluidity of time and the delicate balance between tradition and progress. Beyond aesthetics, it offers practicality as an egg timer. Embrace the beauty of liminality with Liminal Flow.

A limited batch of the sand timers was sold at a pop-up shop within the Holburne Museum as part of a public exhibition. Showcased alongside other student work, the piece connected directly with the building that inspired it, offering visitors a tangible reflection of the museum’s architectural dialogue.

I created the official poster and titled the exhibition Homebound Holburne, capturing the connection between student work and the museum itself. The design combined modern graphic elements with architectural cues from the building, serving as a cohesive visual identity across print and digital promotion.

Embrace the beauty of liminality with liminal flow.
